Immunology and Infectious Diseases
Novartis has a diverse portfolio of medications for conditions that involve the immune system – including transplantation, immunology, infectious diseases, dermatology and bone health.
Our ambition in infectious diseases is to address unmet needs by treating life-threatening infections and to achieve a leadership position in hepatitis, a viral infection that affects the liver. Novartis is also committed to developing new therapies to address bone diseases such as osteoporosis.
Novartis pioneered medicines to assist transplantation with the discovery of cyclosporine more than 30 years ago. We currently have the broadest portfolio of immunosuppressants on the market, including Neoral (cyclosporine), Simulect (basiliximab), Myfortic (micophenolic acid) and Certican (everolimus).
Other leading products include Aclasta/Reclast (zoledronic acid 5 mg), a once-yearly infusion for women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and Tyzeka/Sebivo (telbivudine), a new therapy for chronic hepatitis B.
One of our leading development compounds, ABF656 (albuferon), targets hepatitis C and is in Phase III studies.
Sebivo/Tyzeka
