Respiratory
Novartis develops new, innovative medicines for the treatment of respiratory diseases, including:
-
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a group of diseases including bronchitis and emphysema.
One of our leading products is Xolair (omalizumab), a novel biological therapy that targets one of the underlying causes of severe allergic asthma. Outside the US, Foradil (formoterol fumerate) is also available for patients with asthma and COPD.
Our leading development compound is QAB149 (indacaterol), expected to be the cornerstone of an ambitious program to develop a range of once-daily inhaled therapies. NVA237 (glycopyrronium bromide), a novel inhaled therapy, is being developed both as a monotherapy and combination treatment for COPD.
