Master of Science in infectious diseases, vaccinology and drug discovery

Developing scientific talent is key to discovering treatments that eradicate neglected diseases. So the Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD) has teamed up with the following institutions to create a research-based, joint Master of Science program in infectious diseases, vaccinology and drug discovery:

This program entails 18 months of formal teaching and research work. Students will spend the first five months of the program (September to January) in Basel, Switzerland, and then travel to Singapore for research work and selected courses.

Admissions
The program accepts up to 20 students. Candidates are admitted based on the selection criteria of the admission committee of the National University of Singapore and the teaching committee for biology of the University of Basel. Graduates with a bachelor’s degree in biology or a related subject—or those who have successfully completed a degree course in medicine—may apply.

Degree
Graduates will receive a joint Master of Science from National University of Singapore and the University of Basel.

Funding
Selected students will be offered a stipend that covers 18 months of studies, including tuition fees, research and travel expenses. The number of stipends is limited, and students may opt for self-funding.

Course objectives
Students will obtain a comprehensive insight into the basics of infectious diseases, as well as the strategies of vaccine design and drug discovery. Lectures will complement a research project undertaken with the leading laboratories at National University of Singapore and NITD.
